Dr Nicole Phillips

Relevant Clinical & Research Experience

From 1990 to 1998, Dr Phillips worked closely with Professor Lorraine Dennerstein in the field of womens’ mental health.During this time, she provided care for women admitted to the Mother-Baby unit at the Mercy Hospital for Women, established an innovative referral/consultation-liaison service for the hospital’s in-patients, trained nursing staff and worked in out-patient clinics supporting women experiencing pelvic and genital pain syndromes. She also served as a lecturer at the University of Melbourne, through the Key Centre for Womens’ Health.

In 1994, Dr Phillips established her private practice catering to the special mental health needs of women.

In parallel with her clinical work, Dr Phillips has developed a growing practice providing independent medico-legal assessments for women across all areas of civil law. Her clinical and medico-legal work are closely integrated, complementing each other seamlessly.

She is highly regarded for her empathy, experience and clear, coherent reports, Assessments are offered both in person in Melbourne and via Telehealth.

Dr Phillips is also recognised as an expert in chronic fatigue syndrome(ME/CFS), a debilitating and often misunderstood medical condition. For 10 years, she served as the honorary Medical Advisor to Emerge, the Australian association supporting people with ME/ CFS, and was Medical Editor of its journal. She has lectured nationally and internationally on this subject.

Dr Phillips has multiple academic publications to her name, both in women’s mental health and CFS.

In 2008, she received a Recognition of Achievement Award,ME/CFS Australia, presented at Government House, Victoria by Governor Professor David de Kretzer.

In 2013, she received an Excellence Award, ME/CFS Australia, presented at Government House, Victoria by Governor Alex Chernov.

Dr Phillips has been the leader of her clinical peer review group since its inception, and is a member of 2 further medico-legal peer review groups.

She is a member of a number of RANZCP faculties and of Medical Indemnity Protection Society.
